03.11.10

First lamb - his mother is Lavender, which makes him 3/4 Shetland and 1/4 Lincoln. Check out the horn buds - he is going to have monster horns.
Mostly black, but I suspect he will turn silver

03.10.10

Mom had eye appointments at the VA hospital in Columbia today. As usual, since it is such a long trip, we made a day of it. And we stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch. Rhi thought this was cool for several reasons. It's one of Jason Michael Carroll's favorite places to eat. And our waiter's name was Jason.
Jason was a great waiter too - when I asked him about ingredients for a specific dish (since Rhi can't eat high fructose corn syrup), he checked on everything on the kids menu. And, while she couldn't eat the chicken strips that she wanted (darn breading), she could eat the macaroni and cheese and the homemade biscuits.  Jason also complimented her on how polite she was (she always says sir or ma'am when asking for things at a restaurant, and please and thank you. The please and thank yous we insist on. The sir and ma'am she picked up when Patrick was still in TKD)
Appointments went well, and we were able to do a little shopping at Michael's.

03.06.10

This is the only picture I took today, so here it is on the P365.
This layout was done for a House of Serendipity Challenge on the Serendipity Scrapbooks Forum. The challenge was to use one of two sketches. Mine is pretty close.
The strips at the top are crooked, but by the time I realized it, it was too late to move them without tearing something. So I left it. And the title letters are easier to see IRL - they just did not photograph well.

03.05.10

Lights out at the clinic!
Had a bit of a power outage today. The lights have flickered before, but they usually come right back on. This time, they were off for about an hour and a half.
Do you know how hard it is to get bloodwork done or take radiographs, or take care of ICU patients, or things like that without electricity? The surgery room has an emergency light, but the rest is quite difficult. The girls had to use their cell phones to call clients to reschedule appointments because we didn't even have phones.
The electric company never said what happened, and it didn't make the evening news, but about 300 customers were involved.

03.03.10

Guest spot from my daughter!
She was using the camera, and took a photo of the two little dolls that live in her rose garden house. The toy has spots where you can plant seeds and actually grow tiny plants.

03.02.10

Tried to get Rhi to sit for a photo shoot.
She wasn't in the mood.

03.01.10

Rhi doing schoolwork. She has done so well in the last week, and has finished up several of her books.

02.28.10

Today Rhi and I went to see Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
We thought it was a pretty good movie. I had heard from a couple of people that we wouldn't like it if we'd read the books - so I guess it's a good thing we hadn't read the books.
Definitely thinking about getting them though.

02.27.10

Whoops, got a little behind there.. At least I got the photos taken on time.. LOL

This was lunch.. Rhi and I made penny pizzas from some golden rolls. We placed them close together on the pan, to help with cheese coverage, and she had to make a face on hers. LOL.

02.26.10

Every so often, I just get these feelings that I need to go to a specific store. Usually when this happens, I find something we have been needing, or have been looking for, or something that would be a great birthday present for someone.

Got the feeling again today, that I should go into the thrift store by the bank. It was close by and mom and I had just talked about how the kids needed jeans, so I stopped in. Checked out the jeans. NOT ONE PAIR. In EITHER kid's size. Unheard of. So I walked around to see what else was there. Found a glass pitcher for mom, who hates the plastic ones.

And then I found Nessy.
It's funny how things expand to other parts of one's life....

02.25.10

Rhi and her dad, in the truck, telling secrets.

02.24.10

Yeah. It's cold.

02.23.10

Today is the release date for Josh Thompson's new CD, Way Out Here. I have talked to Josh a couple of time on Twitter - I first found out about him from JMC - Josh wrote "Growing up is Getting Old". Then I saw his video for "Beer on the Table" on GAC - loved the song the first time I heard it. It was really exciting when the local radio stations started playing it on air.
For those fans that preordered the CD through his website, Josh autographed the CD insert.
One of these days I hope to see him in concert.

02.21.10

Still snowing...

And keep in mind, the driveway was shoveled the other day, so this is all new snow...

02.20.10

More snow....

An interesting photo, I think... I had the automatic focus turned off (since it can't focus on the snowflakes) and caught the car out of focus too.. helps portray a little bit, I think, of how hard it was snowing..

02.19.10

My current books... I read the Tale of Two Demon Slayers last night. It is the third in the series, about the accidental demon slayer... one of the funnest books I have read in a while.

Stated the Pelican Brief the other day, then left it at home, so started on the Testament - almost done with that one, and will go back to the Pelican Brief when done. It is not uncommon for me to be reading 3 or 4 books at a time - like my mother, I have a voracious appetite for books.

02.18.10

Yet another photo from work.

Patches likes to sit by the door that separates the front of the clinic from the back. She will sit and wait for someone to open it. Once you do, it is only a few minutes before she is sitting and waiting again to go back to the other side. LOL.

02.17.10

This is my road after it was plowed. Now, keep in mind, the road is very flat - there is no hill on the left side of the road. It is all simply snow.

02.16.10

Need to get the last few days of photos uploaded. Should have done some while I was at home yesterday, but I didn't get very far. Why, you may ask? My GT addiction.

Ghost Trappers is a game on Facebook (which is the biggest time waster in the world, I know). In Ghost Trappers, the player is an agent for SCOTCH, the Secret Corporation of Trapping Castle Hauntings in Virtual Scotland. Using traps with candle circles and whiskey for bait, the goal is to snap as many photos of ghosts as you can. Some ghosts are easy to catch.. others not so much. There is a huge spot on Wikipedia dedicated to the game, which makes it a little easier to figure out what to do next.

There is a rather large community of people that like to play this game. And while some are snots and just out for themselves (ie. resellers), most of the ones I have found to talk with are very nice. I have been hanging out in the GT Chatroom, which is a great place to find answers to questions, or just get a bit silly. I've been adopted into their virtual family, and it's nice to have a place to go to talk about the game.

02.15.10

Icicle outside the office.

02.14.10

Hera in the snow. We've gotten  a lot of snow this week. Makes it hard to get out to town.

02.13.10

Rhi playing Final Fantasy X on the Playstation.

02.12.10

These are some of my collectibles. I collect the letter J. The cat is a funny halloween piece that I picked up somwhere. The hand is cast iron, and great for holding necklaces and things, inclusing the extra bookrings for mini albums. The green Making Memories ribbon is from CHA in Chicago last year. The fairy is also cast iron, and something I've had for a while now. The shot glass is from a friend's wedding. The opal  earrings and the pearl necklace were found at an antique store. The little pink skull earrings were bought for Halloween

02.11.10

Patrick wanted a new picture for his facebook profile - so I took this one today.

The scariest part? If you look really close, just above his lip, the boy is already starting to get a little fuzzy 'stache there!

AH How did I get old enough to have a son with a moustache?!?!

02.10.10

Went to the bookstore to look for more Cate Tiernan books. Didn't find many, but I did find this:

Cool, huh?

This is what my road looked like when I was going home this morning

02.08.10

Today's photo was taken at work - after it had started snowing again. Instead of the heavy, wet snow from earlier today, this is light, shiny sparkly snow. It was really neat to see all the individual snowflakes. So when I went outside to look for my book to read on my dinner break (which I had apparently left at home), I snapped some photos of the snowflakes on the rail.

Which will be uploaded tomorrow if I go  home. The roads are not great right now, and I'm not in any hurry to end up in a ditch.

02.06.10

My original photo of the day was going to be what I had for lunch. Then I caught this - Patches (the cat) and AJ (the snake) looking at each other through the mesh top. Patches likes to lie on the top of the cage because it is warm. AJ is a corn snake, and called AJ because he was named after his predecessor Apollo - this is Apollo Junior. Though he is not nearly as friendly as the original Apollo..

02.05.10

Bladder stones that I took out of a dog during surgery today.

02.04.10

This is where I sleep when I stay at work. The mattress leaning against the counter is a bit of a bone of contention. It belongs on the trundle beneath the bed. But other people that use it prefer to just shove it in the room instead of putting it back where it belongs. So I just shoved it to the side and left it.
The pink blanket on the bed is my all time favorite blanket. It is microfiber, very very soft, and super warm.

02.03.10

Did a bit of walking around town today, since I was carless. Way more than I wanted to, considering nothing is that close by, and it was about 21 degrees outside. Stopped for lunch at the Village Inn (which we used to fondly call the Village Idiot when I was in school). Got myself some hot chocolate to keep warm. And found out it was Free Pie Day! (hooray!!)

02.02.10

I downloaded iTunes tonight, after resisting for so long - primarily because of these two songs.
One is the acoustic version of Hurry Home - the tempo is a little faster than I'm used to, but I love the guitar melody, and, of course, Jason's voice.
The other song is by a fairly new group that I found via Twitter and Patrick Davis (@PDMusic). Shawn Fisher is the lead singer, and he and the guys (the Jukebox Gypsies) just released their first song (Open Your Eyes) on itunes today. I really like his music, and I hope they go far. They can be found on twitter (@thisisfisher) or on their website

02.01.10

When pigs fly...

Found this little guy at the grocery store one night. It's really an antenna topper for the car, but I have it sitting on my desk. Seems fitting.

01.30.10

Tonight my husband drove me home, since I am still car-less. So I was able to get some better pictures of the river {not only because I wasn't driving, but also because we were in the Chevy truck, which is much taller than the car. Look, ma, no guardrail!

01.29.10

Spent another couple of nights at work, thanks to my POS car that still needs the transmission replaced, and suddenly decided to have some other part go out as well. Brought scrappy stuff with me, mostly for Friday night, because I hate to have nothing to do in the evenings {I can only spend so much time on Facebook after all!} At night, I spread out my stuff all over one of the tables in the lunch room, but for Friday and Saturday during the day, it has to be out of the way, so I pack it all up, and stuff it under the table.

01.27.10

My favorite breed of dog

If you didn't know, these are Irish Wolfhounds. Torre, on the left, weighs 146lbs. Uri weighs 158. Yeah. Big shaggy dogs. I love them.

Torre is a lucky girl. When she was younger she had stomach bloat, and I saw her on emergency. Got her taken care of, but she bloated and twisted again the same night. April, one of the technicians at the Hannibal office, and I spent pretty much all night with her, doing surgery and staying with her after to make sure she recovered ok. A lot of dogs don't recover, especially if the owner doesn't notice right away, and the twist is bad. So it was really great to see her again.

{and look! a picture of me!!}

01.26.10

Snowing again...

Today's picture was taken right as I got off work... so about 12:05 in the morning.

01.25.10

Today's photo is my car stereo, showing the radio station that announced my hottie, Jason Michael Carroll, will be playing a concert in April in QUINCY! So... since the radio station is helping to sponsor the show, which is done every year by the Quincy Fire Department to raise money, I will be listening to this station A LOT MORE hoping to win tickets. Usually ticket winners also get meet and greet passes. Which would make my millenium.

Oh, yeah, and if you noticed the time on the clock {insert eye-rolling smiley here}
This is a Blaupunkt stereo, which was given to me on Valentine's Day  many years ago by my husband {fiance, at the time}.  And it sat around for a long time, after taking it out of the old car because I didn't want to put it in the Escort {we were thinking about selling it}. Gave in last summer because I wanted to be able to listen to my {JMC} CDs in the car, so I had him finally put it in. I love it. However. When the clocks had to be changed for daylight savings, neither one of us could figure out how to change the time. Ok. So it was an hour fast. Big deal. I just won't be late anywhere LOL. THEN they had to replace the transmission. Which apparently means they  have to disconnect the battery {what do I know, I am NOT a car girl} because when I got the car back, it was now 2 hours SLOW.  gah.

Naturally - I don't have the instruction manual anymore {insert another eye-rolling smiley here}. So the answer to that is to just punch buttons randomly until something happens. Well, all that happens here is it changes the clock to MILITARY time.

Which.. ok, I can deal with that. My father, my mother, my brothers, my husband - they were all in the military, so I can read military time. No big deal. Then I realized something kinda cool. In the evenings it's easy to read - just drop the one in the front. Yep, when I took this picture, it was 4:11, and I was heading into work. Doesn't work so well in the morning, but then I'm usually not awake then anyway! LOL

One of these days, I'll see if I can find the manual on the internet. For now, I just leave it. Cos there is just something fun about 14 o'clock.

01.24.10

I found this card box at the thrift store for $1.25. Didn't really know what I wanted to do with it, but it was in really good shape, and came with the dividers. Well, when I finished up all the cards for the FOAD card sketch challenge, I needed a place to put them - and discovered they fit perfectly in the box. Nice.

01.23.10

Today was a crop day! Hopefully going to have another one tomorrow, as Serendipity's crop isn't over until Monday! Woohoo, so cool to actually have 2 days for a weekend crop! Love my Saturdays off!

Anyway... today's photo is Rhi with the mask I had to make for one of the Fashion on a Dime challenges.
These were quick challenges, from 30 minutes to a few hours for the deadline. I managed to do several today, and only seriously messed up with the time zones on one..

Another palindrome day!

Photo for today is of a minutes old Boston Terrier puppy, shortly after delivery by C-section.
Isn't he a cutie??

Wanted to get a picture of the mud. Ugh.
Got this one instead - the woodpile.

{Yeah, those are chickens}
